I remember nothing,
the turned yellow photo, where I am on the hands of my mother, a crumb in diapers remained only.
But the father said that even then I liked to draw in "Creation” and "Art”
magazines to which he subscribed even before war in 1938-1939. Simple pencil
circles I drove according to pages of magazines, it is a lot of wrong
circles. The father stored these my first arts until the end of life, as well
as my first drawings. And that parents stored my first drawings (though war
was, and moving), says that they sensed in me artist. And in magazines then
printed projects of the Palace of Soviets with Lenin's huge sculpture and a
set of bulbs for night-time lighting. And over these projects I left wide
circles and lines. And one looks now at it from depth of years, it turns out
symbolically - I cross out official art and draw my own.
When I began to draw –
everybody told me that I go "against the current". I myself sharply
felt it. I even have a drawing "Against the current": there is a
crowd, the people, and I - in defiance...
