In
2004 Gennady Dobrov went twice to work to the ruined Grozny which he had
visited for the first time in the far youth. The result of the trips was "I
Loved This City” series including 14 big drawings from nature. One of the
Chechen newspapers called this series "City Landscapes under Mozart's
Requiem". Residents of Grozny were grateful to the grey-haired silent
artist for his sympathy to their. The drawings from "I Loved This City”
series were printed in the Chechen and Russian magazines (more than 15
publications). A big interview with the artist was shown on the Grozny TV,
and also in the broadcasts "Russian Look" on TVC and "Letters
from the Province"' on "Kultura” TV channel.

2006
– the year of the compelled refusal to work because of almost total loss of
sight. After 6 difficult operations on the eyes sight was partially restored.
The artist gradually returns back to work on oil painting in art-studio.
In
the summer of 2007 he was elected as the honorary member of the Russian
Academy of Arts.

In
January, 2008 Gennady Dobrov opened in New York in headquarters of the UN the
"Requiem” exhibition.

In
September-October, 2008 the artist went to the destroyed Tskhinvali. He drew
the ruins of the houses, listened to the stories of the eyewitnesses of the
recent drama and was convinced that common people, Ossetians and Georgians,
helped and supported each other in the trouble. Result of the trip were the
drawings "The Southern Ossetian Tragedy" (90 works - from big drawings
to fast sketches from nature).

Gennady
Dobrov's last creative tours were to Spaso-Gennadiyev's monastery in the
Yaroslavl region and the Solovetsky Islands in the fall of 2009. The weak
sight didn't allow him to work carefully with a pencil, to fulfill details on
paper. The drawings became more generalized.

At
the beginning of 2010 the joyful message came
- the artist Gennady Dobrov is
appropriated to the rank "The National Artist of the Russian
Federation". The commemorative award medal was handed to the artist in
the Kremlin on May 6, 2010 by the President of Russia Medvedev D. A.

With
the approach of summer heat of 2010 a gradually weakening artist felt sharp
deterioration of health: to the progressing diabetes and a chronic hypertension
periodic vomiting after food added as a result of duodenal ulcer. Gennady
Dobrov didn't like to call the doctors. It was difficult to work and it was
necessary to lie. The caring wife was always near.
The
last joyful event in January, 2011 which he waited, was the election as the
corresponding member of the Academy of Arts (instead of honorary membership)
- couldn't improve his health. At the end of January he got to 1st City
hospital with a partial left-side stroke. The paralysis was complicated by
the old chronic diseases. The artist died in reanimation on March, 15.
